One of the things that most people don’t know about the desert, it’s chalk full of talented artists. When I started to photograph for the Palm Desert Art Museum and Art Patron Magazine, I had the privilege of meeting some of the top up and coming artists in the Coachella Valley. One of those artists…Ryan Campbell.
A self-educated painter, Ryan’s artistic practice investigates a combination of geometric abstraction and minimalism. His on-going series of works entitled, “Line Segments,” can be described as groupings of hard edged layered bands of color that intertwine and meld to create abstract and geometric patterns within varying perceptions of depths of field. Campbell’s work and practice are inspired by such acclaimed artists as LeWitt, Martin, Cruz-Diez and Herrera as well as others.
Campbell is also an accomplished muralist, having honed his technical skills painting walls on and around the Southern California urban landscape. His selected commissions include clients such as AEG, Goldenvoice, Pernod Ricard and Red Bull North America and his works are included in several important American collections including the Cheech Marin Collection and the Cargill and Donna MacMillan Collection. Campbell lives within the scenic backdrop of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Palm Desert and creates work in his studio located in the Art and Design District in Cathedral City, California.”
