Let’s talk what to wear for family photos. I know it can feel like a lot, but trust me, this is meant to be fun, not stressful. Two things will make your photos really pop: location and wardrobe. Think of them as the peanut butter and jelly of your session—they just work better together.

Pick the Right Location

Where we take your photos makes a huge difference—it’s what turns a nice shot into a “wow” shot. Soft fields, desert hills at golden hour, cozy park nooks… the right backdrop lets your family move, play, and connect naturally.

Once we’ve got the perfect spot picked, your wardrobe can fall into place. Don’t overthink it—this is about enhancing the photos, not stressing over them.

Wardrobe Basics

Clothes absolutely matter, but the key word here is comfortable. You’ll be walking, sitting, twirling, piggybacking, and maybe chasing a few wild toddlers (it’s all part of the fun!).

• Soft, natural fabrics like linen, cotton, knits, and lace photograph beautifully.
• Layers and textures add depth without being fussy.
• Avoid scratchy, tight, or itchy clothes—they’ll show up on faces and moods.

Shoes That Don’t Kill the Fun

Shoes can make or break the mood.

• Choose footwear that suits your location and activities.
• If you have purchased new shoes for the kids, have them walk around in them to break them in.
• Kids need shoes they can run and play in comfortably. Happy feet = happy kids = happy photos.
• Barefoot is beautiful in safe spots (soft grass, sand, or indoors). Just make sure feet are clean and trimmed.

Accessories & Details

• Keep it soft and natural: Hair clips, scarves, and simple jewelry work best. Avoid anything that will reflect light or blow away.
• Leave watches, phones, and sunglasses out of the session. I promise, everyone can be without these items for 60 minutes.
• Snacks & comfort items: Great for calming littles, but avoid anything messy or stain-prone before the session.

Clothes are important, but your energy and connection are the real stars. When everyone is comfortable, able to move freely, and not distracted by wardrobe frustrations, magic happens.
