They also rent out baby gear, cribs, car seats, strollers, which is genuinely useful if you’ve got family traveling in and don’t want them hauling their own equipment.

For that classic, put together look, Janie and Jack on El Paseo is worth the stop. Their pieces run a little more elevated than what you’ll find at a typical mall store, and it’s my pick when I want my son in something photo ready.

This is a sweet one, and it’s locally owned right here in the Coachella Valley. Cuddle Paws makes soft, animal-themed body pillows kids actually want to sleep with and drag around the house, not just prop on a shelf. Uncle Don’s Hobbies

This one’s a little different, and I love it for that. Uncle Don’s has been serving the valley since 1955, a real, full service hobby shop with RC planes, cars, boats, and trains. It’s the spot for the kid who wants to build something, not just unwrap it, and it’s the kind of local institution worth knowing about.
